The Education Committee is pleased to announce the second of our
Please join Education Committee Co-chairs Suzette Gilchrist, Marcia Northrup LaBarge and Georgia Marsh as we visit another of Chicago’s iconic institutions, The Union League Club, and dive into their unique contribution to the Chicago art community.
Get a glimpse of the second largest private collection in the Midwest, second only to the Art Institute of Chicago. Almost a third of this museum-quality collection, comprised of more than 700 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, and photographs, was created by women.
Enter the stunning Heritage Room on the second floor and be welcomed by the tinkling keys of a classical pianist. Peruse the artwork with your friends while sipping a bit of bubbly in what was originally the club’s women’s lounge. Then, wine and a delicious luncheon will be served as the program begins.
Archivist Cheryl Zeigler will enlighten us as to the unique history of the ULCC and its stunning Beaux -Arts home through its archival collection. Two of the club’s foremost docents will then lead us through the intriguing stories behind the beautiful paintings.
After the presentation, you are welcomed to view the rest of the collection located throughout the club after the luncheon at your leisure. A map of the artwork and location within the club will be provided. The first to find the Monet gets a prize! Enjoy this unique opportunity.
This presentation is the second of the 2023 Education Committee’s Food For Thought Series where we explore Chicago history by diving deep into its iconic institutions.
