Please join Education Committee Co-chairs Suzette Gilchrist, Marcia Northrup LaBarge and Georgia Marsh for a dynamic conversation about Chicago in the 1940s, appropriately taking place at Chicago’s iconic and historic steakhouse, Gene & Georgetti!
The year is 1941: The Chicago Bears are the Pro Football Champions, the Chicago Cubs are the first baseball team to play organ music during a game, and gasoline costs a mere 12 cents to a gallon. And famed restaurant Gene & Georgetti opened its doors. Nestled under the El tracks, the steakhouse, opened by Gene Michelotti and his partner Alfredo “Georgetti” Federighi, seeps of history through every inch of the building: from the walls on the first floor lined with famous faces that have stopped by through the years to the storied mural painted on the second floor.
Chicago historian Scottie Perry will set the tone for the day, expanding upon Chicago’s rich history in the ’40’s. She will then hand the mic over to Michelle Dupretti, nationally recognized event planner, entrepreneur and third generational owner. Michelle will further the telling of Chicago stories as observed through the lens of Chicago’s oldest steakhouse.
With Frank Sinatra crooning, guests will enjoy passed lite bites, wine and a delicious luncheon prepared by Executive Chef Cristiano Bassani.
This unique presentation is just the first of the 2023 Education Committee’s Food For Thought Luncheon Series where we explore Chicago history by diving deep into its iconic institutions.
